Is Fake Positivity and Weight Loss a thing?

How is your diet going? It’s going GREAT (This sh*t sucks) You seem to be always at the gym! Yeah, I go hard (I hate the damn gym) You always pack your lunch, good for you. I’m all about meal prep (I hope nobody sees the McDonald’s wrapper in my passenger car seat) You make losing weight seem so easy. Yeah because I am a beast (I thought about quitting this morning, last night and when I Passed those donuts in the lunch room.

Does any of this sound familiar?!? Let break it down for you, I am all for positivity on the weightloss journey

BUT

I am getting tired of seeing

FAKE

WEIGHTLOSS

POSITIVITY ONLINE AND INPERSON

Alert …. Alert … Alert…. >>>>RANT AHEAD<<<

Its gets on my damn nerves when I see people pretending that the weightloss journey is so FREAKING EASY…. Stop the press …. Hell no its not. Now before I get too irate let me pull it back. Yes, if you feel great about the journey please share that I just don’t like when people present the weightloss journey as a 100% happy journey.

THAT

IS

BULLSH*T

Some days will be crappy and all the fake positivity is out the window.

Let me brake down my introduction to this blog post for you (NO WORRIES this will end positive but first I have to be honest)

Someone says How is your diet going?

Your REAL answer (I hate the damn gym)

Someone saysYou always pack your lunch, good for you.

Your answer- I’m all about meal prep <<<FAKE Weightloss POSITIVITY

Your REAL answer (I hope nobody sees the McDonald’s wrapper and bag of chips in my car passenger seat)

Someone says– You make losing weight seem so easy.

Your answer– Yeah because I am a beast<<<FAKE Weightloss POSITIVITY

Your REAL answer– (I thought about quitting this morning, last night and when I passed those donuts in the lunch room)

Don’t fall for the hype. Yes, the journey is pleasurable but when we take on fake weightloss positivity it makes it harder for us to get through the journey because you are forced or you force yourself to think things are all good when they are not.

Acceptance on the weightloss journey is key. If you are struggling accept it and If you are killing it accept it but don’t let the Instagram and YouTube guru’s make you believe that something is wrong with you because you are not happy go lucky everyday about the weightloss journey because that is not being true to you and how you feel. Don’t fall victim to guru’s and their nicely crafted pictures and videos that scream FAKE Weightloss POSITIVITY. I am not saying the journey is full of all bad days I am just sharing with you that you will have good and bad days.

Here are 3 reminders so you not to fall victim to Fake Weightloss Positivity

  1. Minimize your consumption of social media
  2. Share how you really feel about the weightloss journey (bad or good)
  3. Don’t compare your journey to others
  4. KEEP GOING

It’s your turn, do you fall victim to weightloss positivity? Why or Why not?

Your post had me pulling faces…yep i go to the crossfit gym. Nope not for weight loss but at 59 years of age i do it for me …and i think the most important point t you made is to not compare yourself to others.

I try to remind myself that it’s never good to compare myself to others and just live my life, not worrying what others are doing! Sounds like you’ve got a great solution – spending less time on social is definitely a great way to navigate this!
