Many of us when we start our fitness, weight loss or lifestyle change we want to scream it to the top of our lungs. We want to tell it to everybody or anyone who would listen.
Slow down. Before you go proclaiming your goals to anyone of course you have to think about whether or not you are truly committed to the goal. (You are probably like well if I made the goal then I must be committed) Yes and no. Yes, if you have created the goal you are committed to the idea but real commitment comes with “consistent action toward that goal”. No, if you have just created your goal and have done nothing in like 2 weeks (other than if your goal calls for you to wait) then you may not be as committed as you think.
But should you really share your fitness goals? Of course I always play both sides of the fence because I can see it from each side.
NO, you should not share your fitness goals if
- You are sharing with people that are not supportive. Some people just won’t be as supportive as you want them to be so it’s no point of telling them. Key thing is to KNOW the people who are around and we all know if people will support us or not.
- If you are sharing the same goal for the 7th time. This goal has been a goal you have raved and ranted about before and people were behind you and you never completed it. It is best that you don’t share with those people because they may not believe you. These people will want to see proof not you’re proclaimed desires.
YES, you should share your fitness goals if
- You are sharing with people that will hold you accountable in a positive way. Some people you tell can check in on you time to time to make sure you are on track with your goals without being rude but a friendly nudge to remind you to keep going.
- If you know that you need the support. None of us can go after everything alone. If you know you will need the gentle push from others who know the fitness goal you have then it may be worth it.
Overall telling others about your fitness goals is totally up to you, but make sure you share wisely and not with everyone.
Did you, have you or will you share your fitness goals with other? If, so why?

Thank you for commenting and some of us have been there before chasing the same goal and some people just rather us show them we can do it than just telling them !
